Dedicated to the 1999 Canadian Junior Hockey Team

Pride

January 9th 1999
by Cindy

After last year, only placing in 8th,
They're back, with revenge in their hearts,
And on them, we have no faith.
We believe they will fail.

We say they can't score,
That they can't check or defeat.
That they won't succeed.
That they will be beat.

Their 1st game worries us,
For they only tie,
But they won the next,
They were beginning to fly.

They won the rest,
Until they had to play,
Against the underestimated U.S.

But they learned from their lost,
And you could easily see,
Sweden paid the cost.

Only expected to place in 5th,
Now they were playing for the gold,
With true hearts and a dream they'd hold.
They played well, extremely well!
I'm proud to say, they brought home the silver,
And great games they did deliver.

So now I hold a tear in my eye,
And almost begin to cry,
For my love for the game and my pride,
Stirs deep emotions, down inside.

Maybe next year,
They'll hang the gold 'round their necks.
But for now, the silver and the memories,
We'll all hold dear...
