The Edmonton Oilers chose Jason in the first round (fourth
overall) of the 1994 Entry Draft. He scored a
goal in his first and
only game with the Oilers in 1994-95. In 1995-96,
Jason notched
two assists in 20 games. In December of 1997,
after three games
and one assist with the Oilers, he was traded
with Steve Kelly
and Bryan Marchment to the Tampa Bay Lightning
in exchange for
Roman Hamrlik. In 35 games with the Lightning
during 1997-98,
Jason scored two goals and eight assists.
Jason spent three seasons in the OHL prior to playing
professionally. In 1992-93, he tallied 22 goals
and 20 assists with
Newmarket. After 17 games and 24 points (seven
goals, 17
assists) in 1993-94, he finished the season with
Niagara Falls,
notching 15 goals (22 total) and 47 assists (for
a career-high of
64) in 41 games (for a career-high of 58). In
1994-95, Jason split
the season between Niagara Falls (26 games) and
Sudbury (23
games), scoring a combined total of 17 goals and
35 assists.
Jason led Team USA in scoring at the 1993 Pacific
Cup in Japan,
with five goals and one assist. He also played
for the U.S.
National Team through five games during 1993-94,
tallying two
assists in five games. Jason was a member of Team
USA again at
the 1994 and 1995 World Junior Championships.
